Our client is a global publisher of business and management science content, with a product portfolio encompassing online journals, books, e-books, training and online learning. The group has offices in North America, South Africa, the Middle East, China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and Brazil.

The group is now looking to hire a Marketing Director at Board level, with responsibility across the group, including the core business and all subsidiaries.

The Marketing Director will direct a global department of c60 staff across insight, brand development, marketing and corporate communication and marketing services, at the same time overseeing the strategic marketing function across the business. This will include joint ownership of the Strategic Product Roadmap for the business and significant input into business and product innovation.

He/she will lead the brand strategy for the business, enabling the Board and the business to develop and communicate a philosophy, mission and vision which remains relevant and impactful to the marketplace. He/she will ensure consistency of brand communication between central and local/regional businesses and will take responsibility for creating, implementing and measuring the effectiveness of a full marketing, communications and PR programme. He/she will direct insights, market research and data analysis to provide actionable intelligence and forecasting and to feed into product development strategy. He/she will develop and lead marketing teams at central and regional level to implement marketing plans and will also ensure the necessary skills and resources to drive strategic marketing across the group and at central group level. He/she will drive innovation, creativity and best practice, recruiting, managing and developing staff both in marketing functions and in cross-functional teams throughout the group.

You will be an experienced senior marketing professional with at least ten years’ experience devising and implementing strategic and tactical marketing plans for one or more scholarly or academic publishing businesses, with a clear focus on revenue generation, product and service innovation, creativity and marketing best practice gained both at UK and international level. You will have deep-seated expertise in the scholarly publishing market, with a clear and demonstrable understanding of current and likely future trends, user behaviours and business models and how these could impact the business. You will be a proven team builder and leader, able to develop and lead teams and to communicate, challenge and influence at the most senior levels. Above all, you will have the ambition, credibility and dynamism to operate and have impact at Board level as part of a dynamic executive team.

The role is based at the group’s HQ in Bingley, West Yorkshire, within easy reach of major communication and travel hubs including Leeds, Bradford and Manchester but also on the fringes of the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales. NB: As a highly visible Board appointment, it is essential this role is based at HQ; home working and location flexibility are therefore not an option, but assistance with relocation will be offered.
