David Thew has worked in the online publishing market for 30 years and in recruitment and executive search for the last 20 years. He was a founding director of the specialist publishing and knowledge management recruitment consultancy Intelligent Resources and subsequently Director of Publisher and Content Provider Recruitment at TFPL. He left TFPL in February 2013 to launch his own executive search consultancy.
Established in 2009, Maverick Publishing Specialists, headed by its Principal, Martin Marlow, comprises more than 60 consultants worldwide. With experience spanning the breadth of digital publishing, Maverick helps clients across a range of business areas including digital and publishing strategy; marketing strategy, communications and market research; technology, content and product development; sales support and publisher relations. Collectively, the Maverick consultant team have worked for major commercial publishers, SME and Society publishers, aggregators, hosting companies and trade and consumer organizations and have delivered consultancy and support for publishers and service providers of all types and market sectors.
Speaking of the agreement, Martin Marlow, Principal of Maverick Publishing Specialists, commented, “One of Maverick’s core strengths has always been its flexible approach to client support. Our goal is to provide publishers with the ability to tap into a wealth of human resource and experience via a number of differing business models dependent on their specific requirements and budget. We are delighted to enter into this agreement with David Thew & Company as it enhances and expands yet another range of customizable services we can offer all our respective clients. Increasingly Maverick found that we were being asked to provide short or longer-term support (either in a particular area of expertise or to cover specific job functions) until such time as a more permanent employee could be found. From our discussions with David Thew, it was clear there was synergy between the two companies which if combined, would enable us to provide a much more comprehensive service across the interim management and recruitment process.”
David Thew added, “Although the global recruitment market is increasingly virtual, there is no substitute for specialist on-the-ground market expertise and resources, particularly in such a fast-paced and dynamic marketplace as publishing. We were increasingly being asked to provide recruitment solutions both on a project basis and in geographies where our existing resources were stretched to capacity. By entering this agreement with Maverick, we can provide clients with a complete end-to-end resourcing service across multiple disciplines on both an interim and permanent basis, drawing on specialist market knowledge in all localities. Clients have made it clear they want to work with us on a global basis, and we can now respond to that demand.”
